Sierra has introduced a new line of heavy-duty ignition switches for Yamaha, Suzuki and Nissan/Tohatsu outboards. New switches are available for 2- and 4-stroke outboard motors with either dash-mounted or control-box-mounted ignitions.

These new switches offer many “key” features. They were designed to provide minimal circuit bleed over, making them ideal for use with popular DFI, EFI and MPI engine packages. The heavy-duty construction allows them to handle greater loads and offer a more diverse range of accessory functions.

A rubber molded key combines OEM appearance and feel with a solid, secure grip. The part number is molded into the casing of the switch body for easy identification.

Sierra’s Model MP51010 Ignition Switch is offered for all Suzuki 2- and 4-stroke outboard motors, while model MP551020 is designed for use with Yamaha 2-stroke outboards with a control-box mounted ignition. The new Sierra Model MP51030 provides dash-mounted ignition for Yamaha 2-stroke engines. For boats powered by Yamaha 4-stroke outboards, Sierra offers a choice of its new MP51040 (control box) and MP51050 (dashmount) models. Sierra’s new Model MP51070 is designed for use with both 2- and 4-stroke Nissan/Tohatsu outboards in either control-box or dash-mount styles.

Charles Marine & Industrial Group recently announced the introduction of their new StartNowTM, an automatic starter switch and battery combiner designed for boats ranging in size from 15 – 29’. StartNow delivers automatic starting assurance, eliminating common problems boaters experience as a result of discharged batteries. Electric Trolling motors, stereos, bilge pumps and lights can all be the culprits of a dead battery. “StartNow offers boaters the peace of mind and safety of a guaranteed start,” quotes Lyle St. Romain, Managing Director of Charles Marine & Industrial Groups.

The unit’s microprocessor allows the main battery to drain without draining the reserve battery. When the unit’s smart sensing device detects the main battery voltage dropping below cranking ability, StartNow engages, drawing charging power from the secondary battery in order to start the engine. Similar to the way a car engine is controlled by computers, StartNow recharges automatically from an alternator or battery charger. The microprocessor guarantees the battery will never overcharge and always be ready.
